The clients approached us to review how they could provide an additional bedroom with en-suite and a study area and larger kitchen-diner space in their existing 1930’s house.
By carrying out a series of sun path models and external studies we were able to explore the potential massing and materials with the clients directly. The final design generates two new forms, one to the rear and one to the side.
The new rear-projecting bay echoes the existing bay at the front but has a gable end to tie in the single storey extension. The palette of brick, timber doors, zinc roof & cement fibre cladding is respectful of the existing building whilst adding some colour to the rear garden façade.
